A large and elegant, self catering, country house set amidst hundreds of acres of farmland on the edge of the beautiful and historic village of Falkland in Fife. The house was built as a manse in 1806 for the Rev. George Buist, and designed by a famous architect, Thomas Barclay. This Georgian home was formerly home to Frances Shand Kydd, and has been visited by Diana, Princess of Wales, and her sons, the Princes William and Harry.

Falkland is in Central Fife, within 40 minutes of Edinburgh, St Andrews, Perth and Dundee, and within 30 miles of more than 50 golf courses. The nearest railway station is at Markinch, only 7 minutes away, and Dundee and Edinburgh airports are within 40 minutes drive.

Buses run to Falkland, and the nearest bus stop is 5 minutes walk away.

Ideal for large families and groups, the house sleeps up to 12 adults and 2 children in 6 bedrooms; there are 3 en-suite rooms, and 2 family bathrooms. There is a dining kitchen with AGA, a light and airy conservatory, a comfortable Drawing Room with dual aspect and open fire, a tv room, and a Dining Room to seat 12.

There is plenty of outdoor space, with a sunny terrace, south and west facing, an acre of walled garden with trampoline and swings for the kids.

Children are welcome, (cots and highchairs are available for babies).

Falkland is an historic small town, famous for Falkland Palace and 30 buildings of architectural interest. Narrow cobbled streets and crow-stepped gables abound, and it has 3 tea-rooms, 3 pubs, and a small hotel (all serving lunches, afternoon teas and dinners). There are several lovely craft shops, a post office/general store, a bank, a hairdresser and all that you will need nearby. We are 10 minutes from Glenrothes and Cupar for bigger shops, and suggest that you order your supplies from Asda or Tesco for delivery on the afternoon of your arrival.

We are ideally located in Central Fife, within 40 minutes of Edinburgh, St Andrews, Perth, and Dundee, and within 90 minutes of a third of Scotland. A perfect base for exploring, shopping, beaches, castles and of-course Golf! There are 50 golf-courses within 30 miles, with Falkland 10 minutes walk away, and Ladybank (an Open Qualifying Course) 10 minutes in the car. Gleneagles, the venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup is only 28 miles away.

We are at the base of The Lomond Hills, and perfectly placed for walking. At the edge of the village lies Falkland Estate with miles of smooth tracks suitable for a walk or cycle. Falkland lies on the main cycle routes from Edinburgh and the south to Aberdeen and the north.

There are beaches within 30 minutes, the best at Aberdour, Leven, Largo, Elie, and St Andrews.
